If your timing chain jumped teeth (bad bad bad), that timing has nothing to
do with the timing you're talking about. The timing chain has to do with
the relationship between your crankshaft and camshaft. The timing you're
talking about is the point in time the secondary spark is sent to the
cylinders.

Ken,

For what it's worth... my 97 V6 has the stall problem as
well. My battery died recently, and I replaced it with an
enormous 1000CA 850CCA battery from napa. Although the
truck now cranks over merrily, it still stumbles and dies
occasionally at idle.

I've also noticed that it stalls more often when the engine
is at running temperature - I think I recall you mentioning
the same about your truck.

This one is probably all in my head, but it also seems that
it stalls just about *every time* I backup, such as in a
parking lot or backing into my driveway. Soon as I let off
the gas, it quits. But I'm usually rolling fast enough to
pop the clutch and start 'er up again :)

Keep us informed - I want to know if you find out what's
causing it. Just curious - does your engine have a noisy
timing chain? (my timing chain became noisy around the same
time it started stalling, and I am wondering if this is a
side effect of the computer adjusting the timing or something).
