A-500 is basically a 904.. A-518 is basically a 727.
You can build a 904 to handle a 380 HP crate 360...
We have a 72 Duster in our car club (Mopar Club San Diego)
that has a 380 hp crate 360 with a 904 behind it. The
transmission was beefed up with race gears, etc. etc..
Just made extra heavy duty. The Duster is Mopar '98-99
Deep Amethyst, with white interior. Runs like a bat out
of hell, yet is very street able for long dist. driving.
A built up 904 is also a lot lighter weight than a 727,
so as far as weight reduction goes, you might be better
off working with a 904, er..A500 that is built up.
