Reach in there with your finger and grab hold. If you can't get it that way,
use a small screwdriver and wedge it in the top of the T-stat. Don't use
anything to try and get under the T-stat because you might scratch the
gasket flange. Once the T-stat is off, then use a screwdriver or putty knife
and very carefully remove any of the old gasket.
