oil pressure oddities (GenII)

My 93 Dakota (318 with almost 95,000 miles) has had what I would
consider to be "high" oil pressure since I got it (at about 93,000
miles). Sometimes, the pressure guage needle is just one needle
width from the top of the "normal" range, but most times it is
about 2 to 3 needle widths. I don't know if this is safe and
normal. This is the first vehicle I've ever had with oil pressure
that high.

I've also had about 4 occurances of the oil pressure dropping to
0, and the oil light coming on. Each occurance was after heavy
braking (not heavy enough to lock up though). Should I be worried?
Is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening? With
the short yellow lights around here (marietta, ga), heavy braking
is often required. :(

Thanks in advance,
jim
