I refered to the haynes manual and there it was . How to test the primary
and secondary on a coil..

It's basically. an ohms test across the (+) and (-) for the primary side
and a lead on the (+) and where the coil wire plugs into will test the
secondary side.

I had 2 blaster 2 coils so I compared numbers and the one that was arching
voltage had 5.5 on the 20k ohm scale and the one that appearantly seems to
work had 4.2 on the 20k ohm scale. I just swapped them out and whoola,
problem fixed. Whew. what a day...

What's weird about my problem was... Before it did it REALLY bad, then I
put new autolites in (same 3934s. sorry bernd) and it only did it in drive
with somewhat load on the motor. Then I swapped out the coils and boom,
it's all good. Still seems to be missing power still, but at least it
doesn't stumble and accelerate like a silverado crew cab with a metro 3
banger in it.

<<I'm trying to figure out if an open in the secondary of the coil might
cause arcing like that. Seems like it might since an open secondary
does not have a path to return it seems like it might arc to complete
the circuit. Especially at those voltages. Its been awhile, but can't
a coil be ohm'd out with a meter to detect an open? I know its more
complicated to find a short but I think an open is a go/no-go resistance
check.
