It's basically an O2 "Simulator". On the '98+
Dakota/Durango/Ram/Jeep's, if you remove the cat (or replace it with an
aftermarket high-flow cat) the check engine (MIL) light comes on. The
KatBox fixes this problem as well as (in some cases) enhances the
performance of the vehicle.
