Brian,
First off, welcome to the list. I think you'll find it "interesting". I'm
a 2WD owner myself, but I don't ever recall hearing about a brake
pad/caliper sound like you are describing. Sounds like you definetly have
something wrong. I'm sure some of the 4WD owners will reply on this.
Personally, I think someone is trying to shirk off their responsibility.

Subject: DML: New to the list
Hi Everybody!
I am not only new to the list, but new to the Dakota owners world. I just
purchased a 98 Dakota Club Cab Sport 4x4 with a V8, and love it! I have
wanted a Dakota for about 5 years now, and am glad to be a proud owner of
one! I do, however, have a question about a noise that I am hearing in the
front end, and wondered if anyone on the list ever experienced the same
problem.
When the truck is stopped, no noise. When I start moving I hear a sound,
that resembles the sound of a marble in a glass jar. As I go faster, the
noise gets louder. It then sounds like I am dragging a chain. I took the
truck to dealership, where I purchased it, and they told me it was the
brake pad moving in the caliper, and that Dodge was famous for that.
Are they on the up and up, or is there a problem with the front end, I.E
accident damage that they didn't disclose, transfer case, or transmission.
I am glad to be a member of the list. And thank you for any help you may be
able to provide.
