RE: Another sparkplug question !

I can only judge by what I've tried and that's stock and 3923's. The
problem with comparing is apples and oranges, though. I've done quite a few
mods to the truck and the 3923's didn't go on until a lot of the mods were
already done. When I was stock plugs and mostly stock rest of the stuff
with 87 octane gas it seemed like I would get to the point of starting to
ping a lot more, especially in warmer weather. With the 3923's I hardly
ever reach that condition, however, the caveat to that is:

1) My plug wires were changed to MSD Super Conductors.
2) My PCM was changed to Mopar HP PCM, therefore I started using 91+ octane
gas.
3) Headers were installed (Mopar).
4) F&B Billet TB was installed.
5) MSD Blaster SS Coil was installed.
6) MSD 6A Ignition was installed.
6) K&N Gen II FIPK replaced the AirAid System.
7) TB Spacer was removed.
8) Gap seemed pretty wide on stock plugs when removed at 8,500 miles.
9) 3923's were gapped at .045.

Almost any one of those things could have helped to reduce the onset of
pinging. With the introduction of all of those it's pretty hard to say what
the benefits of the 3923's are over the stock plugs. Since I've never used
the 5223's I don't have much to say about them either, though, I do remember
someone either was using them or was going to try them out. Actually, in
the past year, I believe there were a lot of Dakkers going to try various
plugs. You'll probably have to dig in the archives to find what some of the
experiences are. Also when you compare you need to compare like mods
otherwise results will probably be skewed.

Of course, you could test them out and let us know your findings. :-)

Subject: DML: Another sparkplug question !

I've sent this question before with no response, so I thought I would try
one more time.
I really would appreciate it if someone could explain to me why the
"standard tip" Autolite 3923's supposedly work better in the Magnum engines
than say a one step colder 5223 (5224 being stock) "extended power tip"
plug? Just curious and thought I would ask if anyone has tried the Autolite
5223's.
What does the standard tip have over the extended tip that Dodge puts in
stock?
I'll probably go with the 3923's, but I'm just stumped on this "standard
tip", "extended tip" thing.
ANY response would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again
Jay
