Sounds like detonation, or "pinging" to me. I'm sorry to hear this, I
thought the 4.7L's had escaped the pinging problems. I've never heard one
bit of clatter or anything other than injector tick out of mine. Remember
that the 4.7L has no rockers, per say. It's an OHC engine, and has what's
called Roller Followers. The whole valvetrain in the 4.7L was designed for
minimum friction, hence the "roller" follower, and the hollow cams which oil
through the lobes and keep fresh oil up top. You can try some higher test
gas, will prbably cure your problem. Of course you could go to the dealer
and have them flash a -4 degree retard into your timing curve. That would
probably rid the engine of any pinging problems and would allow you to
continue to burn 87 octane. HTH,

I have a 00 dak quad cab, 25,000 miles.... sometimes under a load -
going up hills etc... the engine rattles, kinda like the rockers ,
however oil have been change every 3,500 , mobil 1 is my oil of choice.
anyone else experience this problem or have any insight into it.
