In very basic terms, a locker is a mechanical locking device (teeth actually
mesh to "tie" the two axles together) while a posi device generally relies on
friction (clutch type mechanism) to "tie" both axles together. This is a very
gross explanation and there are some variations on the theme. Both types of
devices have there advantages and disadvantages.
PowerTrax is the only manufacturer I know of that makes a locker form my (1998
model Kota) 29spline 8 1/4 axle/differential... Keep in I was looking a couple
of years ago so other manufacturers (like Detroit) may have come out with
something. I was not looking for a posi so I don't know many manuf. but I think
Auburn gear makes some good stuff.

What is the difference(is any) between a locker and 'positraction' ? are any
