nope...not the case with automatics... slippage is what causes the tranny to
wear out....the quicker the shift, the less time the tranny slips....that is
what a shift kit really does... plus, you have to remember that there are
two ways you can have a shift kit set, firm or harsh, Firm is best for
daily driving, and has no adverse effects on the life of the tranny, the
bands actually last longer... Harsh setups might cause problems to show up
elsewhere, like a bad U-joint on the drive shaft, fatigued axles or gears,
etc.

I've got a HARSH B&M shift kit in my Chevelle, it literally slams you back
into the seat... just ask Geoffrey Hackbart (he can tell you that I do not
baby the car!)... After 30,000 miles on it, I flushed the tranny, and it
was very clean...no shavings, no burned up ATF, just clean red ATF. A stock
TH350 after 30K miles would be showing some wear...
