I started to have this type of problem shortly after I had the Transgo
Shift kit installed. Depending on where I had adjusted the TV cable,
I would have a 1-2 or a 2-3 shift problem under WOT from a standing
start in my 44RE. My shifts are manual in order to keep the rpms
in my power curve. Manual WOT shifts from a moving start or
part throttle shifts (standing or moving starts) are aok.

If you search the archives (especially in '98 and '99), you'll come
this problem from other R/T owners as well. An IndyRam which
runs at my local track had them as well.

In 2000, I came across a couple of articles that said the governor
pressure solenoid or sensor or both were known to cause such
a problem. Dodge replaced both parts in '99 (I believe) and they
are now currently used in these (42/44/46RE) trannies.

I replaced solenoid and sensor in 2000 but the problem remained.
The solenoid is around $150CDN. Replacement requires removing
the tranny pan, tranny filter, disengaging wire connectors from the
solenoid (or sensor if replacing both), removing screws holding the
solenoid retainer to the governor body, separating solenoid retainer
from governor and pulling solenoid from the governor. Getting to the
sensor requires a few more steps after this.

I located and wrote one of the R/T owners (no longer on the list)
who had this problem (I believe he was a Dodge mechanic in
a southern state). He said that he had found no solution.
He races with the TV cable detached and shifts manually ...
a poor man's, manual valve body? I'm not a tranny expert
so I haven't tried this as I don't know if this would cause any
damage or not.

What I did was to install a tranny cooler and to use
synthetic tranny fluid. I discovered half through last year's
racing season that I could leave the line at WOT with the shift lever
in 2nd, lift the pedal momentarily about 1/4" at about 5400 which
gets me the 1-2 shift immediately, and get back down on the pedal.
I can then do the 2-3 shift manually at any rpm (for me, around 5500-
5600 rpm).

I have some ideas about possible causes but would not know
if they are the real cause without expensive trial and error fixes.

HTH.
