pinging and arcing observations

Hi all,

Been messing with my plug wires and have some observations to share.
I've had some problems with arcing to the block, tried various things
but setting the gaps to .035 (stock was .040) seems to have taken care
of it. Removing the shields helped a little. I've got aftermarket wires
on it (MSD, had Magnecors but they broke, they wouldn't replace them) so
I think I don't need the tiny bit of extra spark the wider gap would
give me. It's running way better, but I'm wondering if anone can think
of a specific problem with doing this? (the gap)

Also the wiring TSB has you route #5 over the valve cover and #7 around
the back. I'm routi ng #7 over the valve cover, #5 around back, and I
get less pinging. They cross by the headers (like #6 and #8) instead of
at the distributor. I don't have an oscilloscope but my ears tell me
it's better.

I hear there's a ping forum? Where's that? I'm sure I need to do the
belly pan gasket, it's too cold now though. It doesn't ping bad anymore
anyway, I just want it perfect. :)
