<<<Greetings.
Time to deal with that pesky "pinging under load" issue on my 98 6-cyl. The
entire intake track is stock. Question: What type/brand of air filter and
spark plugs to you recommend and, what should I gap the plugs to?
Please advise at your leisure.

A K&N drop in filter is a good, reasonably low cost filter. Autotlite 3923
plugs seem to do a good job in dealing with pinging. The first thing I would
do though is put in a 180's thermostat. Get the motor running a little
cooler and that should help. You could also mix a bottle of Water Wetter or
something similar in with your coolant.
