The feeling you just described is the ABS kicking in.
All Daks (at least 2000 and up) have rear ABS standard. And it does feel
like it grabs, then lets go, and grabs again etc....
What you should do is take it out somewhere in the open, get up to about 30
mph (50 km/h) and slam on the brakes, really stand on them.
You should hear the wheels chirp a bit, not totally lock, but they will
chirp, release, chirp, release etc. until you stop. You've obviously notice
this sound if there is some loose sand or light gravel on the tarmac surface
to make the tires slip that much more.
