Sorry to say but it's the fuel gauge sending unit. Very common.:( I just
replaced mine after experiencing the same thing you did for the past two
years. (yeah I jump right on these problems..:))

Anyway, not too hard a job if you move the bed back. After removing the
tailgate it only took two of us to lift the bed and move if far enough to
access the pump. The sending unit is a separate piece and attaches to the
pump with just a couple screws.
