My wifes grand father built his own gooseneck hitch for his '92 Dak.
Everything was under the bed except for the ball, which screwed into the
hitch though a very nice fitting hole in the bed itself, just as you
described. He used it to tow a 19' travel trailer and having taken it on
several trips myself, it worked great.

I do not believe there are any commercial units out there, so you would most
likely have to either build it yourself, or have a hitch shop build it for
you. You are right, Daks are 1/2 ton trucks and will handle an appropriate
load just fine. Just don't try to drop a 35' trailer on there and you'll be
fine :)
