The only drawback to using a K&N is I've yet to see one with an open end.
Don't get me wrong, using the K&N I had was my first instinct. But my 7"
long cone filter was too long to use. The 5" cone I had bought just incase
fit perfectly... got the open end pointed smack dab into the air inlet on
the passenger side filter. I also got the side right in front of where the
radiator flap used to be.

Yes, the 7" K&N may have a higher CFM rating, but on my V6 only 396 CFM's
are needed. The cheapie 5" is calculated at 565 CFM's....more than enough
on basically a stock engine, but a severe improvement over the stock air
box.

Its actually a perfect setup in my opinion. The inlet is nowhere near the
engine, so its true cold air coming in. Even though its a civic intake, my
money is on that if it were compared to a K&N FIPK on a dyno.

I just think this route is a better route than building a homebrew for just
the fact that for the money you'd sink in materials, you can buy the civic
intake and skip 9/10 of the labor.
