Get the radiator checked.
A few weeks ago my Dak started getting hot when towing my travel trailer
across west Kansas. Put in new thermostat, got radiator "flushed" at a
shop in Estes Park CO., it didn't help. Radiator is only 4 years old and I
had done the usual Prestone super flush treatement last year but apparently
that was not good enough.
Used the heater a bit to keep it cool on the rest of the trip.
Pulled radiator when I got back to GA. I flushed out a bunch of crud and
sediment but could not get it to flow well. Local radiator shop took it
apart and rodded it for $85.. Works fine now.

Subject: DML: the dak is overheating
Coming back from ohio this weekend (I live in northern Virginia) the dak
started overheating in the mountains of west Virginia. The weather was
hot and muggy and I had the a/c going as well. While climbing one of the
numerous mountains I noticed my temp gauge way past its normal setting
and reading around 230-240! I shut off the a/c and took the next exit to
check it out. All of my fluids were normal and no lights came on the
dashboard. I limped home with the a/c off and babying it up the hills.
The temp gauge stayed in the normal range (180?) unless I was climbing
more hills, even going 55-60 when it would spike up to 210-220. I've got
a 2000 4.7 quadcab 4x4. any thoughts on this before I take it to the
shop? Thanks in advance. adam
