My '97 is doing the same thing. After installing the body lift they didn't
bend the shift rod to allow enough clearance. So it would try to go into 4
high when i got on the gas. They bent it to clear and the next time i took
it offroad it was doing the same thing yours is. In 4 high it was making a
clicking noise and in 4 low it would pop out.
If you find out the problem let me know.
I'd hate to go and buy a new xfer case.
