Dont forget that the hold down on some models is a heat shield which is
supposed to extend the battery life and make sure the bottom of the battery
makes contact with the heat sensor if your truck is equipped with one. My
99 was and once I put a Ford battery in and had to put a piece of 1x4 in the
bottom of the tray so it would fit. BAD MISTAKE. The heat sensor could not
read the battery temp and told the alternator to overcharge and cause the
battery to push acid out. Then I learned what the thing in the bottom of
the tray was for. True, factory batterys in Dodges usually suck pretty
bad!
