RE: converter lockup

If you are towing with OD off, you really want the TQ locked up. With the TQ
unlocked, your trans temps will climb extremely high in almost no time at
all. My '98 4X4 behaves exaclty like your '00. I can watch my trans temp
gauge climb like gang busters when TQ is unlocked. As soon as lockup occurs,
the temps fall almost as quickly as they went up.

I have a 2000 4.7 4wd w/auto trans. Anyone know if it's normal for the
torque converter to lockup in 3rd when the overdrive is off? I realize it
was a different trans, but my 97 2wd did not lock up when the OD was off.
Dealer mechanic said it's normal, just like a second opinion. I'd prefer it
didn't because it tends to lug the engine and resist coming out of lockup
unless you put your foot down ....... Thanks
