Guess I must have missed that one. :-(
Hmmm, I'm actually a bit torn on this one. Although I don't
particularly want to bar access to anyone, I do have a couple of
concerns to balance that out:
One is just a general question of liability; the more people that
attend, the greater the chance for an accident to occur. Not only
from the numbers aspect, but from a "group dynamic" standpoint. Human
beings are funny that way, it seems like when they get together in a
large group, the collective IQ and plain old common sense seems to drop
below the average, or below the level of any one individual in the group
for that matter. :-) This is especially true for groups where
the individuals don't really know the other people in the group very
well. Anyway, I guess what I'm getting at is that it seems like in
general, when large groups of people get together, stupid things happen,
which obviously I'd like to avoid, as much as possible. :-)
The other is the desire to keep it as the "DML BBQ" and not just "a
group of 4x4s running around the woods". We've basically included the
(group formally known as) ;-) SCORE into the DML group since they came in
via Peter Cutler almost at the very beginning. As far as adding other
groups goes though, I do worry that the "DML meet" portion will get
watered down, especially if the trend were to continue and other groups
wanted to join in too. (At its core, its a DML meet, and I'd really
like to keep it that way; I certainly don't want it to devolve down the
road into just a random offroading event.)
I dunno; any other BBQers have any thoughts on this?
Mike: How many people would we be talking about and would it be just
Saturday or for the entire BBQ?
