Diesel - about 1qt added to your oil and run at idle (varying idle speed
occasionally) for about 20 minutes.

It really depends on how sludged up the engine is. If it's just mild, the
Diesel (or whatever you wish to use) will clean it up. However, if there's
a lot of sludge built up, you risk breaking it free and getting stuck in the
oil pickup screen (which will starve the engine of oil).

Never heard of the engine running worse after the cleaning...exception would
be as noted above (sludge breaking loose).

What process did you say you use for cleaning out a sludged up engine? I
think it was replacing some of the oil with kerosene? and letting the engine
idle a while? Have you seen any problems after this procedure? I've always
heard that after people have run a motor cleaner through the engine that it
never seems to run right. Something to do with the carbon taking up loose
tolerances?
  Thanks in advance.
