I use sealer/RTV/Right Stuff on Water pump, valve cover, oil pan and
differential gaskets. I've also used RTV on tranny pan gaskets.

As for leaks - well - I've used plain old cork gaskets on the valve
covers - they leaked.. I used RTV on the valve cover gaskets, again,
cork, they leaked. I used ONLY The Right Stuff - 1/8th or so of a bead
- they don't leak! Have been that way two yesrs.

Exactly, Jon. I know they say you don't need RTV on gaskets - the tranny
filter/gasket kits we sell at work say not to use any - but I'll be
damned if I was ever able to change a trans pan gasket and have the
gasket NOT leak, when I didn't use any RTV. My last two tranny pan
gaskets, I did not use any RTV on - and guess what - they leak.

Rubber gaskets? - nope you don't need RTV. Cork - I would always use
RTV on cork.
