Yes it has been hashed and hashed again. Here Lately I have been keeping
track of my mpg on each fill up and was absolutely amazed at what I was
getting. Since I purchased this truck(used '95 CC 4x4 V6) I have ran
31x10.5x15 Courser MT's on 15x6 steel rims. My mileage was horrid, at
around 12mpg, due to the lack of gearing(has 3.55's). On my last tire
purchase, I still went with Courser MT's but dropped to 30x9.5x15's. Upon
the purchase of these tires I noticed an instant increase of mileage but
never got to concerned. Well I finally got curious, my mileage is averaging
17mpg now. I get 18mpg on open road trips with no wight. If I am towing
heavy loads I go as low as 15mpg.

The basic info here is that all though tuneups will help, oil changes spark
plugs airfilters etc... The tire size in association with your stock
gearing will make an ultimate decision. The 31x10.50x15 that come on stock
GenIII 4x4 in association is the ultimate gearing for that tire size and axle
ratio giving you that average of around 18mpg. if your gear was say moved to
4.10(11 etc) ti would ultimatley put your mileage back to where it was.

Well i hit http://www.ringpinion.com/ and it seems that the final gear ratio
calculator has been removed replaced with a different one, however 4lo.com
( http://www.4lo.com/calc/geartire.htm ) is still intact.

have fun with it and see where your at.
