Re: Computer backups

That is a great solution to a very complex backup problem. I am amazed
that the bunch of truck enthusiasts on this list are more capable of
backing up their data than the researchers I work with at the University
are. They seem to think that saving all of their data on either an
external harddrive siting next to their machine or on thumb drives is
accurate. This just blows my mind, especially when the University
offers a backup solution with nightly backups, offsite storage and
disaster recovery for $.06 per year per meg.

my plan is two 300 gig drives, do a full backup on the weekend, nightly

incremental, and rotate weekly. take the drive from home to work on
friday morning, bring the drive that's been safely in another location

home on friday night, do my full backup over the weekend and back to
nightly incrementals. Once I start this procedure, all my data will
never be in one place at once and I'll feel a LOT better about things.
