For what it's worth, I've got a magnaflow cat-back 3" system on my '98 318
and it's extremely mellow. Quiet too, at least when my header to flange
bolts are tight, which is rarely... and when my exhaust doesn't come
disconnected between the Y-pipe and catalytic, which is also rare when I
really get on it.
If you want to be noticed, the Flowmaster will be a better choice. I
don't regret the Magnaflow since I've gotten into wheeling and appreciate
the quieter note but when I bought it I didn't get the "wide open
performance" sound I was expecting. If you're looking for something that
flows great and will only get noticed when you're really on it, though,
I'd definitely recommend it.
