Yep, the screw in type black light bulbs are practically worthless.
They will work - sort of - if its very dark and you look very closely.
I would recommend picking up a "flourescent" style black light. You
can pick up a little battery powered unit with a 6" bulb at a whole
bunch of places for about $10. (Do a Froogle search for portable "black
light" - http://tinyurl.com/zb6fm) My Dad just bought one of them to
check antiques for signs of prior repairs. My brother has a screw in
bulb type black light that he was using to check for mold in a home
and the $10 portable unit just blew it away. I don't know anything
about the small unit as far as how long the batteries or the bulb
will last, but so far it has been great and you sure can't beat the
performance for the price! The portability is kinda handy too since
you don't need to be near a power outlet to use it.
