Thanks for the invite, but I already have my route planned. Since I'm
retired USAF, I decided to try to save some money on lodging along the way
by staying in temporary lodging facilities at military installations between
Delaware and California. The route I chose takes me direct on Interstates 70
and 80. The way I planned my route, the first days travel will be from
Dover, DE to Dayton OH, a drive of approximately 570 miles. I can stay at
Wright Patterson AFB. Next day will be a long one. The run from Dayton to
Omaha NE is roughly 740 miles, where I can stay at Offutt AFB. Next a short
hop of 500 miles from Omaha to Cheyenne WY for a night at FE Warren AFB.
Fourth day should be the shortest run of the entire trip, about 450 miles
getting me to Ogden UT and Hill AFB. Final day will be another long run of
620 miles from Ogden to Quincy CA. Total distance estimated at almost 2900
miles. I have already started shopping around for transportation and I think
I'm going to use a 24-foot U-Haul truck and a flat bed trailer to transport
the Dak. I'm estimation the cost of the truck and trailer rental to be about
$4000 and that includes 10 days of use and about 3100 miles of travel. Does
anybody know if U-haul will let me load stuff in the bed of the Dak before I
put it on the trailer? I'd like to be able to put my lawn tractor in the
back of the Dak and move it there rather than take up floor space in the
truck. Also, I'd like to be able to load the mower deck for my other tractor
on the bottom of the trailer under the Dak if I can. That mower deck is a
60-inch model. If I can't load it under the Dak, then I guess I'll just have
to stand it up inside the truck. Lots of planning to do and details to
finalize in the next month.
Guess I better get off here and get to work.

Dover, DE (for now, but I'm California bound!)

You could always stop by on your way out west. It shouldn't be that far out
of your way. Norah and I are only two hours away, we're always looking for
an
excuse to head down to Steiger Acres. Besides, I'm due to change the
exhaust
on my '95.
Just a thought. In any case, congratulations on the move.
