I can't help with the other stuff, but there's a wire that runs out of
the gear selector and down the steering column. I'd assume you could
splice in at the column. IIRC it was brown or black on my truck. They
do sell new switches for the end of the stalk though, check with the
dealer, you might save yourself some time/effort just replacing the
button.
