Why not pick up an older metro for < $1000 and drive that? That'd take care
of your car payment dilemma as well as save you some cash on fuel. That's
why I bought the Daytona.
I budgeted about $1000 for the car and immediate maintenence. I've spent
just under that total thusfar (including title and registration) and it's in
daily driver condition now. If nothing breaks I'll save $1000 in fuel cost
every 5 months, driving it daily instead of the Dak. Since parts for it are
so cheap, even if it does break I won't be out too much.
Insurance on it is cheap as well, $30/month for liability. With the
multi-car discount I got from my insurance company, my monthly bill went down
about $15 by adding the second vehicle.
Of course YMMV, but why not look at getting a commuter vehicle as another
option?
