2wd and 4wd transmissions are different. The bellhousings aren't the same
and the tailhousings are different too IIRC. You'd have to find a 4wd truck
to scavenge parts from.

I did a TON of research on this when I was contemplating swapping a 5-speed
into my 2000 when I had the trans done last. Search the archives for summer
2003 or 2004. Some of the data may not be relevant for you asyour trucks are
considerably older than mine, but the basics should be the same I suspect.
The only differences I found (besides the obvious) was the PCM and wiring
harness for the motor/trans. It looked to be a rather straightforward swap,
just a little labor-intensive.
