Kevin, Knowing now there is a superchips for your truck, that is what I
would recommend. The "death flash" typically removes some timing advance
from your stock PCM and superchips will most certainly get it back...and
perhaps a little more. Don't know if the hypertech is basically the same.
?
The other advantage is removal of torque management and the speed limiter.
I have a superchips for my 4.7 Grand Cherokee and it makes some noticeable
improvements. However, that is not to say that I can "feel" more power but
I race this Jeep from time to time during the season and time slips prove it
is indeed a little quicker and faster. It's the other features I enjoy the
most.
Weather is the biggest factor affecting performance from day to day. For
example, my race truck ran 13.02 @ 105 back in early June but by early
September it could only run 13.32 @ 101. The ONLY change was weather
conditions.....and no, I couldn't "feel" that it was that much slower but
that's about a 30 horsepower difference. The weather is better this month
and it's back to the 13.0s again. By better weather I don't mean that it
feels nice out, I mean that my weather instruments prove that in addition to
cool temps, the humidity is low and the barometer is high. That's where
the difference lies.
There just aren't any single bolt-ons out there that will give you more than
10-15 more horsepower to the wheels. Though that's an improvement of about
a car length in the quarter mile, don't expect to "feel" massive power. :-)
