Well, Illinois dosen't have pre-emption, so don't whip out yer boom
stick anywhere near Chicago. Also, you won't be able to buy ammo here
without a FOID [technically you can, but most of the asshats behind the
counter over-enforce that]. NFA toys should stay at home, or at least
have the ATF letters with you and extra proof of residence. We have no
assault weapons or hi-cap mag laws downstate, so bring most any other
"evil" gun you have. Most ranges have banned the .50 just for the sake
of harmony with the neighbors rather than any statutory reason. Being a
NRA certified instructor, and NROI Range officer, I would be able to
"supervise" dang near anything else.

Illinois also DOES NOT RECOGNIZE ANY CONCEALED CARRY LICENSES. We
have "enforced" concealed carry, which is to say if you are caught, you
are Fucked, so it REALLY needs to stay concealed. The closest we can
get to that is "fanny pack carry" which is a UNLOADED firearm in a bag
that is designed to carry a firearm. It's OK to have
speedloaders/loaded magazines, but the gun MUST be unloaded. I don't
know how that would be applied to out of staters, though, so better safe
than sorry.

As a practical note, I suspect I can produce most anything you might
desire in the way of boomsticks, ammo and all, especially if we decide
to travel to my home club [http://www.lefthandersgunclub.com]. Pistols
from .22 through .45, Rifles .22 through .308, oddball stuff like a .45
ACP rifle and a 7-30 waters pistol, I have a reasonable collection....
