Sounds like the normal "pop" from the exhaust manifolds on initial heat-up
and cool-down. You should hear the 4.7L's on a really cold morning while
heating up.

Subject: DML: 2003 R/T making snapping/popping noise on warm-up/cool-down

Hiya Folks,

I've been hearing a really VIOLENT snapping/popping noise coming from the
engine for a while. It started when I replaced the stock intake manifold for
a
modified Hughes Stage 1.

At first I thought the manifold was the culprit. But I ended up replacing it
this weekend and the noise is still there.

The noise IS NOT RYTHMIC, and not consistent. It happens about 50 seconds
after startup, and continues while warmed up. The noise does not stop as the
engine cools off. I've tried sitting and staring at the engine while its off
but the noise is loud and reverberates everywhere, so its hard to pinpoint.

I have a thread in dakota-durango with a video of the noise and everything.

http://www.dakota-durango.com/forum/showthread.php?t=51792

I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this, (although at this point I'm
starting to suspect the stock headers/heatshields..) or at the very least
tell
me its nothing serious.

 Thanks.
