Gas Guage -> Computer/engine trouble.

I have asked here earlier wether or not the Dakota has a low fuel
warning light, and I have seen others do the same. Some people have
said yes, others no. I decided to find out for sure wether my '96 has
one, so I put a 3 gallon container of gas in the bed and decided to let it
go lower than I had before. I decided that if there was no light, and I
ran out of gas, I could just put the 3 gallons in the tank and drive to
the nearest gas station.

I was driving home today when the engine started to falter and the
"CHECK ENGINE" light started to flash. I pulled over, put the spare
3 gallons into the tank and started up the truck. The engine ran a little
rough but then smoothed out as the gas flow returned. Conclusions: Earlier
Dakotas have the lights but Dodge must have dropped them. (Thanks a lot
guys! My '90 Colt had one, but not a truck that I paid almost 4 times as
much for??)

OK, so I found out that I don't have a low fuel light. Mission
accomplished. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be all I accomplished.
The "CHECK ENGINE" light was on. I shut down and started up the truck a
few times, but it stayed on. I drove home (after stopping at a gas station
to (almost) fill the tank). I checked the codes, and I am getting
12, 43, 43, 43, 55. According to the Chrysler FAQ, this means:

12: Battery or computer recently disconnected
43: Peak primary coil current not achieved with max dwell time
          OR
      Cylinder misfire
          OR
Problem in power module to logic module interface
  55: (End of codes)

My battery and computer have *not* been recently disconnected (though
I did give my brother a couple of jump starts). As far as the 43 codes
go, I don't understand what any of them mean (besides Cylinder misfire).

Does anyone have any idea what is going on here? Can running out
of gas have caused all of these problems?

Thanks in advance for any help or advice you can give me!
