filter housing over.
Mean while my V8 4x4 4sp Auto was getting 14-16.5 before my
foot
started hitting the floor so frequently. I suspect when my driving
habits return to normal I will get as good or better then before."
My truck tach never seems to go in the red too much even in
first,
but I know the speedo goes to 75 in second... I haven't had my
truck
up to 100 yet, I don't really want to get a ticket too badly.
This "flashable" SBEC sounds interesting. Why would/did they
do away
with that?

OK, OK, call it a tax (the difference between $104 for the legal
housing, complete with CARB. number and your $17.50 custom
housing). At least I don't have to put the OEM housing back on
for inspections. Plus, you still had to pay $35 for the K&N cotton
filter.
Seriously, I do see a few differences:
1. The K&N kit comes complete with a new bolt and bracket that
replaces the old along with some other hardware.
2. The K&N has the connection for the crankcase breather hose.
3. The K&N is a 14" unit, vast improvement over the 9.5" unit.
4. The filter on the FIPK is supposedly different from the K&N
cotton filter in that the outer mesh causes the air molecules to
"line up" as they enter the filter, which causes less friction and
more volume (sounds like the original snake oil--what good is a
couple o' million more molecules per second anyway?)
5. The 14" FIPK looks GREAT sittin' on top of that V-8! Dress it
up with colored or braided wires and a little stove-black on the
headers and it looks even better. IMHO, of course.
BTW--my 1st tank after putting in the FIPK got sucked down at
the average rate of 12.8 mpg--my lowest in 76K miles (I check it
every tank).
RE: Flashing the SBEC
The local Dodge service advisor said the EPA caused ChryCo to
stop making flashable SBEC's. I'm sure ChryCo happily
complied, thinking that you and I would purchase the MP SBEC
at $300+ in the name of better performance. Too bad they won't
take your OEM SBEC in on trade.
I also talked to the Dodge tech about ordering a truck with MP
parts installed at the factory (cam, springs, SBEC, exhaust,
etc.--what some here are calling the R/T package) and he said
that most of the drivetrain warranty would be voided. What a
crock!!! Factory parts which are EPA approved, installed at the
factory voids the factory warranty. So, to protest, I suggest we do
what algore says and sell our cars and ride the bus.
