Bill,
I have been shopping for a couple of tires for my Dakota and BJ's has a
pretty good deal on Goodrich Trailmaker Plus snow tires. The P235/75-R15
size is $54.00 each so P215/75-R15 size should be in the low $40's. I was
going to go with them on my 4x4 as all year tires but have decided to go the
cheap way out (put the unused Wrangler spare on the truck and buy one new
Wrangler).

Your P215/75-R15 size according to the Dunlap and Goodyear web pages is 27.
8" in diameter. Also according to the web info the largest cross section
tire you can put on the 6" rim (per the tire manufacturers) is a 235. So a
235/70-R15 is the widest tire that is still maintains your stock diameter.
If you want to push tire manf. recomendations a little, 255 is spec'd for 6.
5-10" wide rims. A 255/60-R15 is 27" in diameter only a little shorter but
your tread width jumps from 6.2" on the 215 to 8.7".

I have also had good luck mail ordering tires from Tire Rack. Pick up a copy
of Road and Track, they always have a several page add. For a high speed
rated ("H" = 130mph) light truck tire the Dunlap Sport Rover GTX looks good
and the prices are not bad at Trie Rack. A friend has actually gotten NTW to
mach the mail order price on several occasions.

Subject: tires on a 2wd with stock rims

Hello Dak'ers,
I have a '94 Dakota (see sig) and have 37,000 miles on the
original tires. Yeah, I know, they should be toast by now but I don't fry
them except for a chirp now and again (and again...). I would like to
purchase two sets of tires, one for spring/summer/fall and one for winter.
I have two sets of rims, predator and chrome both off stock '94 Dakotas.
I have not lowered the truck and I don't intend to in the future.
I expect to purchase a set of tires that work well in the snow
which means narrow tall tires. The speedo is not my concern and the
computer will learn whatever modifications to my driving style that will
occur. The regular duty tires should be good at higher speeds and
cornering on wet roads since it rains a bit here. These should be about
the same diameter as the stock 215-75/15 Goodyear Invictas that are on
there.
Unless I hit the lottery (which I don't play) or get a better job
which may take years, my 6" wide wheels will have to serve me. What do
you think folks? Can you help me and my truck decide on new shoes and
snow boots?

Thanks!
1994 Dakota 5.2l 5 speed (R/T in progress)
