Hope some of you can help me with my problem: I have a 1992 Dakota
5.2 , automatic ( stock ). The problem is the overdrive!! Since it's
best to
start at the beginning I will. In the spring my truck began not going into
overdrive, sometime it would sometime it would not. Checked the codes and
had 55 ( nothing ). Continued to drive into the summer with the same
problem except now it began to stall at idle after de - acceleration.
Ha! a clue, check the codes and as I expected speed sensor error code.
Changed sensor with a new mopar part. Drove the whole summer with no
problems, but now it's back again. I been driving it this way for a few
weeks, and have no idle problems or codes. It is just very annoying.
The odd part is that if it shifts into 3rd gear hard it will always shift
into overdrive, but if it shifts into 3rd very smoothly and softly it
will not shift into overdrive. Also if it is out of overdrive,
and I click the overdrive switch on and off it will sometimes help put
it back into overdrive, but other times I click it in and it does
nothing. I feel its most likely a speed sensor again, but at $45 a pop
they are getting expensive to buy.

                                                thanks
