Dave, you didn't mention any noise accompanying the roughness. I hate to
mention the possibility, but could it be the chain in the transfer case
having developed a kink somehow. It well may be possible to be able to
feel roughness on a relatively smooth road that can't be felt off road
coming from the drive train. I could also be the bearing giving grief
when it's being turned under power rather than just rotating while its
along for the ride.
