If you've actually got low oil pressure you could be hurting the engine,
but in all likelihood what you've got is a bad oil pressure sender.
They're reasonably inexpensive, and they're located back by the
distributor. You might want to have someone with a mechanical guage run a
pressure check for you before you go for an oil pump or something else
expensive.
