and when the remotes fail you can't start the car. Stranded my wife at
work once and almost got us again at a gas station. We're going to have
the starter disable part removed.

Jay-
The EVS II in my '96 Ram has a hidden bypass switch for when the remote fails.
You have to depress the switch and turn the ignition switch at the same time.
This will disable the alarm.

When I bought my '89 Dak new, Chrysler did not make an alarm at the time and I
had to get an aftermarket brand (Mirage). I had the schematic for the unit,
but double checked with the manufacturer as to which wire to put the disable
switch on. I did not want to kill the unit by shutting off all of the power,
I just wanted it to disarm it temporarily. Apparently I was the first person
to ask them this question, because they asked me, "Why do you want to do
that?". Since them it has helped me once when my remote battery died.

By the way, I had the auto-arming feature for exactly two days. The night I
got my truck, I shut it off in the driveway and ran in the house to get my
friends and them. I came out and my truck was locked and armed with my keys
in the ignition! Luckily, I had the second set in my pocket. Needless to
say, I brought the truck back the next day to have them take that "feature"
off.
