The front speakers are THE SAME as the rear. They simply have a spacer
that extends them forward 1/2 inch. Crutchfield has the proper adapters
for about $10 a pair. I used them to put 6.5" drivers in the rear and I
customized adapter to get 5.25" up front. The holes up front are designed
for 6.5s, but I chose to put smaller speakers up there.

Be sure to use some kind of vibration protection when using adapters. A
great material is cheap window sealing foam about 1/4" wide. The soft
stuff if wonderful for lining the adapters and speakers for a vibration
free connection. Plus it's self adhering.

I had the passenger side front out once as it goes in and out
intermittantly. I plan to replace it so for now I've left it alone as my
*real* sound system is that Race Magnum muffler. ;^)

The front speaker fit into a plastic adapter that then screws into the
sheet metal. Someone told me it should be a 5-1/4" in that adapter.
Don't think that's right for the 97 though for some reason. Maybe I'll
just pull the door panel again. Thanks Jack for the info on the rears.
