My '92 3.9 with the MP SBEC idles at about 700 rpm (about 900 with the
stock SBEC) in neutral (5 sp'd). The inside of the tailpipe is black as
coal and so are the tailpipes of most every other injected engine. I've
never heard of a K&N getting shorter in use. Used one on my bike for
about 12 yrs now, and on others too.
