Re: Trailer Pulling

Hi Dick.

Perhaps my experiences are not applicable, but I should pass them on
anyway. First of all, be sure that the 6,400 lb rating applies to
the manual tranny. In '87, the rating for a manual is lower than
the rating for an auto tranny. I don't know why...anyone got an idea?

I pulled one of those tandem U-Hauls a year ago when I took my
daughter to VA Tech. It is 1800 lbs empty, and we probably put
another 700 lbs in the trailer. It was all I could do to get
the combo up the hills at 50 mph. I'm sure that a V8 will do
better, but you should be ready for some slow going in the moutains.
I think that for regular towing, I'd be leary of a trailer that
weighs three times the two vehicle's weight. Even with brakes on
the trailer, it's a big difference that will be a handful in
a panic stop situation.
