Michael,
I lowered my Toyota many moons ago and in fact out more miles on it
lowered than at stock height. 91,000 when I lowered it, and 205,000 when
I sold it. I used blocks from a company called So Low Suspensions out of
Troutdale Oregon. They specialize in old Chebbies, but they also make
stuff for just about anything you want, and they know what they are
doing. For lowering blocks, they use rectangular STEEL tubing. Not the
normal thin walled stuff, but thick heavy gauge material. I used both
their 2 and 3 inch varieties and was very happy with them. The alignment
pin is a very heavy item that is welded into the block and though I
tried, I was never able to re tighten the u-bolts after driving for a
couple of weeks. This means they did not stretch as is common with cheap
block kits.
I would not drive a vehicle who's blocks were cracked. That block is
what is holding the axle in place on the spring, and if it moves even a
little, you could be headed for a major wreck when that axle comes loose
and swings out of position. I would remove the blocks, send them back to
Summit with a request for refund and hope for the best. If they do not
refund your money, then at least you are not out much. Then I would call
So Low and get the good stuff. Your truck will be safer.

They advertise in Truckin' in the back, there may be an updated
phone, but I bet this one is still good.
I really like these folks, because they went way out of their way to
build a set of lowered control arms for my 83 Toyota when everyone else
told me to buy a newer truck. The cut off for custom parts for Toyota
trucks is 84. They were also very friendly and more than willing to help
me make the decision of how low I wanted to go, an how to go abut it.
