I've had experience with performance headers (3 sets) before and from
the lessons (re: mistakes) I've learned I would recommend the coating
and some stage-8 bolts.
Tubular headers will radiate more heat to your plug wires and anything
near the pipes will be subjected to high temps. That's why you'll see
shields around the factory headers. Your wires will get brittle sooner
not to mention some extra heat in the engine compartment. I don't know
what kind of coating JBA offers but HPC and Jet Hot are definitely up
to par. So call "coatings" that came with some MAC headers I've had
burned off within days so I would ask JBA.
I recommend Stage-8 bolts. They are stainless and have a groove around
the head for locking washers. I've had bolts back out and as a result
the exhaust burned the gasket and caused nasty leaks. I re-tightened the
bolts after a couple of heat cycles as recommended but it still
happened.

Subject: DML: questions I will ask JBA (part 2)
OK -
I plan on calling Jeff at JBA sometime later on today ,
and here are the
questions I will ask him .
1) Will the fact that we won't have heat shields on our
headers affect
anything either on the engine , such as plug wires , or
in close proximity ?
2) Are the attatching bolts made of stainless steel as
well , and are they
locking ?
3)Are the bare headers affected by rain , mud , or any
other debris ?
4) Are there rings around Uranus ?
5) Since you're in California , for the love of God ,
what in the hell is
tofu ?
6) Do I keep asking the same questions ?
7) Do I keep asking the same questions ?
8) Who am I ?
Anyway , just playin' around , but I will ask him about
the serious
questions later on today , if you have any others ,
please let me know .
