What I usually do is hit the gas and let the engine disengage the OD and
then hit the button so the OD does not come back on.

Yeah, I would think that it wouldn't hurt anything. Besides, when you
stomp it at 60 or so, it drops out of OD anyway, which is the same as
hitting the button probably... =)
