Well, the hurricane didn't make it to the DML meet. Although Saturday
morning was real wet and rainy for a while. After drying our trucks
off the first time we had to take cover from a rain storm. But once
we identified what was going on (trottmann's curse) things cleared up.
We also agreed that we need to get robert to an exorcist and get the
curse off... ;-)
Anyway the Houston meet was GREAT! Everyone who came ( 6 DML
members, and several other "offline" Daksters ) had a lot of fun.
It's so nice to finally put a face to a name. And it's kinda weird
talking to a "stranger" and it's like you've known them forever.
In attendance we had:
Michael Clark (me!)
Gene Rivers
Tate Strickland
Geoffrey Hackbart
Roderic Vaughan
Brian Lee
Out of the 6, three of us raced. Brian was having engine problems,
we just couldn't convince Roderic to put the 4X4 on the track, and
Geoffrey showed us all what the V6 is good for -- locking up all our
junk in it while we raced. --Ok I guess Geoffrey has suffered enough
this weekend about the v6 thing... ;-)
The DML also made quite a haul in prizes from the show. Gene took
care of the race prizes (I don't remember what class that was in) but
I think it was electronics. Anyway he left with a nice trophy and
$300 in cash. And my MarkIII claimed two show trophies. The first was
runner-up in Late Truck and the last was Best Small Block Engine!
And I also did my part to get more DML members. Along with my
webpage - which I displayed in a notebook on the engine - I had some
DML flyers that people could take home...
We also did the group photo thing at the Battleship. This was
awesome! We had 9 Daks all in a row... quite a site to see, I hope
to have some pictures online in a few days. Nothing like driving
in a caravan of hopped-up Dakotas. Or a ferry with nothing on it but
Daks! You guys who didn't make it, you don't know what you missed!
I know there was some that couldn't make it for certain
reasons, but we look forward to meeting you next year. And next year
we hope to at least double the number of members in attendance!
Well, gotta go find some aloe vera ....
